Wawa Settlement, Capital Grille On The Agenda In Newtown Township
Tonight's Board of Supervisors meeting is packed with items, including a Wawa settlement and a liquor license decision for Capital Grille.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors will consider a settlement agreement with Provco at tonight's meeting that would open the door to a Wawa convenience store and gas station on the Newtown Bypass.
The settlement, according to multiple sources, is expected to include an agreement by Provco to incorporate a solar panel array into the project that would help power to the convenience store and gas station, and a "Welcome to Newtown Township" Wawa monument sign at the corner of the Newtown Bypass and Lower Silver Lake Road.
The agreement would settle all outstanding litigation between Wawa and the township and would require the supervisors to approve final revised plans within 60 days of the approval of the agreement.

Provco and the township have been locked in a legal battle over the project since last fall when the board voted 3 to 2 against the approval of land development plans. Shortly after the denial, Provco appealed the decision to Bucks County Court.
At the same time, Provco filed an appeal with the township's zoning hearing board challenging the validity of the township's ordinance with regard to signage, canopy size, and number of fueling stations. That appeal has been ongoing with the next hearing scheduled in July.

Also on tonight's agenda are two key votes on plans to bring a Capital Grille to Newtown Township.
The supervisors are scheduled to hear and act on a conditional use request by Capital Grille to open a 236-seat restaurant inside the former Pier One Imports storefront in the Village at Newtown
The supervisors will also decide on whether to grant the transfer of a restaurant liquor license from Warrington to Newtown Township.
In the past, the board hasn't been open to such transfers. Last year, when the Blue Point Grill asked for a transfer, the board voted it down. BPG ended up securing a liquor license from the former Friends Bar and Grill, which had closed its doors in early 2022 in the township.
