Gritty Featured On 'Last Week Tonight With John Oliver' [WATCH]

"Gritty" was featured on the political comedy show Sunday night, but Flyers officials said that wasn't the real Gritty.

PHILADELPHIA – Gritty truly is the talk of the town, and apparently the nation. After the new Flyers mascot was revealed one week ago, the internet has been buzzing with talk about the controversial mascot.

But it seems Philadelphians, and the nation as a whole, are warming up to the... intense mascot.

Gritty (actually a bogus version of the mascot, according to Philadelphia Flyers officials) was featured on the HBO political comedy show "Last Week Tonight With John Oliver" Sunday night.

The show, which leans heavily to the left in terms of political stances, took a moment in the first few minutes to say they sadly did not have enough time to talk about "clearly the most fun story of the week:" Gritty's debut.

Oliver riffed on Gritty's often jarring appearance, his lack of balance on the Wells Fargo Center ice (you can see some hilarious clips of Gritty slipping on the ice here), and even the harsh Tweet Gritty sent to the Pittsburgh Penguins mascot before going into his episode-long discussion on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

However, as a good comedian does, Oliver capped the episode with a call back to Gritty, who even made a live appearance on the show as a gavel-pounding, beer-drinking judge as a dig to Kavanaugh.

Officials with the Flyers said Oliver and his team must have made their own version of the mascot for the show's political purposes.

Gritty also showed up on the Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon last week. See his visit to Rockefeller Center here.
