Phillies Honor Police Involved In Shooting, Standoff

PHILADELPHIA — The law enforcement officers who spent hours dodging bullets, and some who unfortunately were shot, in Philadelphia's Tioga-Nicetown neighborhood during a standoff got recognition from the Phillies at Tuesday's game.

During a pre-game ceremony, the Phillies paid tribute to officers Joshua Burkitt, Michael Guinter, Shaun Parker, Nathaniel Harper, Ryan Waltman, Justin Matthews, Edward Wright and James Wheeler. Additionally, SWAT officers John Rechner, Chris Sharamtew, Billy Stephen and Richard Hough and CTO Joe Simpson were honored.

These men were honored for their courage during a seven-and-a-half-hour standoff with accused gunman Maurice Hill on Aug. 14. Hill is facing numerous charges, including attempted murder, assault on law enforcement, and many more crimes.

Burkitt, 26; Guinter, 32; Parker, 32; Harper, 43; Waltman, 42; and Matthews, 31, were all shot during the incident. Luckily, they were all released from the hospital within hours of being shot.

Parker threw out the first pitch Tuesday night. He even got tips from Bryce Harper before the pitch.
