Roxborough High Shooting Responders To Be Honored Thursday
State Rep. Tarik Khan Thursday will honor the first responders who leaped into action following the deadly Roxborough High School shooting.

ROXBOROUGH, PHILADELPHIA — The first responders who were called to Roxborough High School in September 2022 for a deadly shooting are set to be honored.
State Rep. Tarik Khan, D-Phila., will present citations to the police officers and other first responders of the tragic shooting at Roxborough High School in which 14-year-old Nicolas Elizalde was killed.
The event will take place from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at Walter B. Saul High School, 7100 Henry Ave.

The U.S. Marshals Eastern Pennsylvania Violent Crime Fugitive Task Force has increased the reward for information leading to the arrest Dayron Burney-Thorn, 17, who is charged with Elizalde's murder.
The U.S. Marshals Service’s addition of $5,000 brings the current total reward amount to $50,000.
The $10,000 offered by the Marshals Service will be paid immediately upon Burney-Thorn's arrest, authorities said.

Philadelphia Police and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives are offering the additional $40,000 reward.

Authorities said in November 2022, Burney- Thorn was hiding in the Atlanta, Georgia, area.
U.S. Marshals in Georgia are also seeking help from the public and the local media in an attempt to locate Burney- Thorn.
Burney-Thorn is 6 feet 3 inches and weighs about 215 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.
His last known address was in the 2900 block of Bambrey Street in Philadelphia.

Burney-Thorn is also implicated in another shooting that happened one day before the Roxborough shooting.
Authorities said he and two others shot and killed 19-year-old Tahmir Jones on Sept. 26, 2022.

Three others — Saleem Miller, 16, Troy Fletcher, 15, Yaaseen Bivins, 21, and Zyheid Jones, 17 — were all taken into custody in connection with the Roxborough shooting.
Miller, Fletcher, Bivins, and Jones are charged with murder, firearms violations, attempted murder, aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.
