Awful November For Phillies, Birds And Union: Philly Sports Chatter

Two Philadelphia teams lost championships on the same day. The Eagles lost their perfect season besides Sixers injuries and Flyers losses.

PHILADELPHIA, PA —Maybe it's me. Maybe I'm jinxing our Philadelphia sports teams.

The month of November hasn't been so festive for Philly sports fans: The Philadelphia Phillies lost the World Series to the Houston Astros in six games earlier this month and the Philadelphia Union lost the MLS Cup title.

Only in Philadelphia would two championships be lost on the same day. We're basically a bunch of turkeys.

And, after a perfect season, the Philadelphia Eagles stumbled on "Monday Night Football" against the Washington Commanders. Luckily, our old friend Carson Wentz was on the sidelines.

That home loss for the NFL's last remaining team really stung. You know how you felt Tuesday morning after staying up late watching the game. Losses are always painful, especially when expectations call for a win.

Only the members of the 1972 Miami Dolphins —the NFL's only perfect team —clicked champagne glasses and cheered the Eagles' downfall Monday night.

Keep in mind, though, that my opinion about the Eagles making a Super Bowl run is still intact.

I really believed, though, that the Birds would soar past the Commanders. Luckily, they made a late comeback to barely beat the resurgent Indianapolis Colts Sunday.

If this team had a two-game losing streak, fans would be screaming at the top of their lungs.

Elsewhere for our Philly teams, the news isn't too promising, getting as grim as some of these recent weather forecasts predicting snow.

We found out recently that Phillies star Bryce Harper will need elbow surgery, a procedure he is undergoing next week. The team doesn't know Harper's prognosis at this time.

That's certainly not good news. And neither is the news about the Flyers' struggles, at one point losing four straight.

Again, quite the month we are having.

Besides the Sixers playing uninspired basketball, they lost James Harden, Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid to injuries. Luckily, they beat Ben Simmons Tuesday night without their three stars.

We'll take a closer look at them soon. The NBA heats up around Christmas.

In the meantime, we will hope the Eagles take care of the Packers in another prime-time game Sunday night. At 9-1, they still need to hold off the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants.

We don't need a carving knife in the gut. Not to jinx anyone.
