YARDLEY, PA —The Yardley Borough Police Department has hired a part-time police officer to fill one of its two vacancies, the police chief said.

Lucas Murray was sworn in at Tuesday's Borough Council meeting by Mayor Chris Harding.

He replaces Heather Carnivale, who left in mid-October to take a full-time post with the Lower Southampton Township Police Department.

But after filling one part-time vacancy, the borough has another.

Police Chief Joseph Kelly III told Patch Wednesday that Andrew Nagle has left the department as a part-time officer to join full time with the Upper Makefield Township Police Department.

“During this critical time in police recruiting, Yardley Borough is fortunate to have Officer Murray join our ranks,” Kelly said.

Murray is a 2005 graduate of Temple University where he earned a B.A. in journalism and a 2013 graduate of the Camden County (NJ) Police Academy.

Murray has over a decade of police experience split between New Jersey and Pennsylvania agencies in both patrol and investigative positions.

“Officer Murray comes to the Yardley Borough Police Department with years of varied experience and a passion for community policing,” the chief said.

In October, police officer Dakota B. Romberger was promoted to the full-time ranks. In September, Yardley hired Robert Gergal Jr. as a part-time police officer.
