Trevor Christopher Weigel, 23, of Churchville, was arraigned Sunday afternoon by Magisterial District Judge Michael W. Petrucci in Newtown during a video appearance from his hospital room on charges of criminal homicide, burglary, possession of an instrument of crime, disorderly conduct, and harassment. He was denied bail.
Authorities said the Weigel and Battista had dated for two months. "The relationship recently ended and they remained amicable," Schorn said at the press conference.
Lower Makefield Township Police Chief Kenneth D. Coluzzi said that Battista was stabbed 15 times. On Friday, police saw Weigel chase after Battista, tackle her to the ground, and begin stabbing her in the upper portion of her body.
Police used a Taser to apprehend Weigel, who had stabbed himself in the neck, after a chase on Interstate 295.
Body-worn cameras from police officers involved in Weigel's apprehension on Interstate 295 show him saying that he found out that she (who law enforcement believes to be Battista) was cheating on him and he "lost it."
Levittown Now had spoken to Battista's mother right after the crime took place.
“He took my reason for breathing. My entire life. He took my daughter from my husband and I, he took my other daughters’ sister," she told Levittown Now about Weigel.
Jaden Battista listed on her Facebook page that she was from Levittown, but was living in Yardley. Her relationship status was listed as single. Authorities said Battista was living with relatives in Lower Makefield Township.
She had attended the Center for Student Learning Charter School at Pennsbury.
The mission of the Lakeside Drive school in Levittown is to serve at-risk students in grades 6th-12th grade who would benefit from a smaller, more supportive learning environment.
Patch has requested a statement from the school about Battista.
Some of her Facebook posts included a public service announcement about hummingbirds and how to feed them properly.
For her birthday in September 2022, Battista created a fundraiser supporting and seeking donations toward the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, her Facebook page stated.
"I've chosen this nonprofit because their mission means a lot to me," she said in a Facebook post.
