Virginia Fugitive Apprehended At Naval Station Newport: Police

The Sterling resident was wanted on charges of grand larceny and assault and battery, police said.

NEWPORT, RI — A Virginia fugitive was apprehended at Naval Station Newport, police said.

Anthony Vonphakdy, 31, was wanted on chargesof grand larceny and assault and battery, the Rhode Island State Police said in a media release.

The charges were in connection with Leesburg, Virginia, Police Department cases, the release said.

Vonphakdy, a resident of Sterling, was arrested after troopers were called to the naval station about 9 a.m. Wednesday to assist the Newport Naval Police, according to the release.

"Mr. Vonphakdy was transported to the State Police Wickford Barracks where he was processed and later transported to Second District Court for afternoon arraignment," the release said.
