Smoke from the fire could be seen for miles, including across the bay in Jamestown.

Schoolhouse Road is near Quidnessett Country Club and about 4,500 feet from Pojac Point.

Firefighters said it was one of the largest brush fires in the area in recent memory and is one of a spate of recent brush fires blamed on extremly dry conditions.

The good news is that some rain is in the forecast. The National Weather Service is forecasting rain beginning Sunday through Tuesday.
