Dahlias Bloom and Bloom and Bloom

Can't believe how dahlias bloomed during hot, dry summer Cut flower arrangements in house

I've always loved fresh blooming flowers in my house, and we've been especially blessed this summer and fall to have not one, but three arrangements. Marion has talked a lot about the dahlias his grandfather grew, and we've admired them in the mountains, but this is the first year he's ever planted them. In spite of the extreme heat and lack of rain during the summer, our dahlias bloomed profusely. Since the weather has cooled, they are showing out!

In August, the morning after our class reunion, we hosted breakfast for my classmates. Our talented son-in-law made three flower arrangements for the tables, consisting of greenery and blue hydrangeas from his yard. Since we planned to leave for Myrtle Beach after breakfast, our daughter asked us to take the hydrangeas out to dry and discard the rest of the flowers.

Of course we didn't discard the greenery. We did take out the hydrangeas but left the rest as it was. When we got home, the arrangements still looked lovely and Marion started putting fresh cut dahlias in each vase. Today is October 25 and we still are enjoying three lovely cut flower arrangements.

All good things must end, and I know that with the first freeze our dahlias will be gone for this year, but we have enjoyed them immensely for several months, both in our yard and inside our house.

Maybe you should try planting dahlias next spring.
