Green Wave Christens New Singleton Field
With the support of their faithful followers the Green Wave Football team brings home a hard fought and well deserved victory.
This past Friday night (August 26, 2011) I made a little trip to Central, SC. I had the distinct pleasure with riding with the Green Wave football teams most loyal and energetic fans, the Easley Marching Band! Coach Smith's Gridiron Gladiators and Mrs. Gill's Marching Musicians rolled into the new Singleton field to do battle with the D.W. Daniel Lions. The Lions were hoping to score big victory in the first official game in their new stadium.
The Green Wave drew first blood going up going up by seven early in the game. The Band and all the Green Wave faithful went wild! Before the end of first half the Lions answered with seven point of their own.
Early in the second half the Green Wave struck again with another touchdown and PAT making it Easley 14 Daniel 7. The Lions soon answered with another score of their own making it 14 all. Late in the game a goal line fumble allowed the Lions to take the lead for the first time in game: Easley 14 Daniel 21.

At this point the Easley Band and all the Green Wave fans decided to make their presence and support just a little more obvious. With the Band and the other Green Wave faithful fully engaged Coach's Smith men's rolled across the Lion's for one more dramatic touchdown.
With around three minutes still left in regulation play Coach Smith had a huge decision to make: kick the extra point or go for the two point conversion. With complete and absolute confidence in his offensive unit, Coach Smith made the gutsy call to go for the two! As a matter of fact, coach Smith had so much confidence in his offense he kept the ball on the ground. In an impressive show of will, guts, and raw strength the Green Wave pushed the football across the goal line for the two point conversion!

The team went wild! The band went wild. (See the videos attached.) The entire visitor side (except for my wife, a 1985 graduate of Daniel High School) went wild! The Green Wave defense shut down the Daniel offense on their next possession clinching the win for Easley!
After the game, Easley brass instructor (and part time ninja) Nate Roper was heard remarking how the football team seemed to have an added level of intensity when the Band was cheering them own. I seemed to have noticed the same thing myself. That lead me to ponder something interesting...
By my best guess-timate there are around 80 students in the Band and Color Guard. Imagine the level of intensity the Football team could achieve if all 20,000+ members of our town came out and put their full support behind the Mighty Green Wave?!? Roll on Easley football team! Rock on Easley Band!
