It is Almost Like School Has Started Without Pickens County...

High Expectations for the Green Wave in 2011-2012

Most of the surrounding school districts will start school this week, but Pickens County students are still at home. As a father that loves having his kids around I am not convinced that having my kids home a few more weeks is a bad thing either. However, I must admit it feels a little odd for the kids to still be at home when Easley's football season kicks off this Friday.

This Friday, August 19, the Green Wave opens it season at West-Oak High School over in Westminster, SC. Expectations are high as last season was perhaps the most successful season the Green Wave has had since my class (83-84) went 9-4 "back in the day!"

As a band parent I am even more excited about the fact the Easley Band is on the brink a new season as well. While it often seems to be a well kept secret the Easley Band program has a tradition of excellence for many years.

Enthusiasm and excitement among the band members (I include the Color Guard when I use the word "band") seems to be at a level above any other year in recent memory. Although the band graduated many talented students last year the program still seems to be top notch this year. The band has quite a number of younger students this year but they are already performing at a very high level. The band directors and staff have very high expectations for this year's Marching Competition Season.

I hope as many of you as possible will make the trip to West-Oak High school to support our students and our town as we kick-off a new season at Easley High. If you are able to make the trip look for Easley's biggest fans and rowdiest supporters (the Easley Band). We will be there with bells on! :-)
