📰 News we're reading

• Improper Moisture Management and Structural Support Identified as Primary Risks for Lexington Deck Construction (geneonline.com) — Homeowners in Lexington are being warned that poor moisture control and weak structural support are the biggest threats to deck safety in our humid climate. An outdoor living expert says many local decks fail early because builders skip proper ventilation, materials, and support, urging residents to pay close attention to codes and climate-smart construction.

• 2 Lexington County agencies receive litter enforcement grants (lexingtonchronicle.com) — Lexington County Solid Waste Management has received a PalmettoPride litter enforcement grant to step up ticketing and fines for illegal dumping and unsecured loads, alongside Pelion Police. Last year's grantees brought in over $86,000 in litter-related fines statewide.

• City of West Columbia reviewing potential regulations changes for long-term and short-term rental housing (westmetronews.com) — West Columbia officials are considering new rules for both long- and short-term rentals, and residents can weigh in at a public hearing on September 1, 2026. While the changes apply inside West Columbia, they could influence how nearby communities like Lexington and Lexington County approach rental housing standards and enforcement in the future.
