Federal district judge throws out Kat Dahl lawsuit against Johnson City (wjhl.com) — A federal judge has dismissed former federal prosecutor Kat Dahl's retaliation lawsuit against the City of Johnson City, ruling her firing from work with the Johnson City Police Department was performance-based rather than punishment for pushing certain investigations. The decision ends a four-year legal battle that had drawn attention to how the city handled serious assault allegations.

Flock cameras divide Tennessee governments, residents over privacy as some end contracts (timesfreepress.com) — Johnson City now operates 145 license plate readers and 145 pan-tilt-zoom cameras under a 10-year Flock contract, sparking a local debate over safety and privacy. City police and leaders defend the system's crime-fighting benefits, while residents like the DeFlock Johnson City group question government tracking and push for stronger civil-liberty protections.
   

3. Johnson City Schools hears comment on Ten Commandments (johnsoncitypress.com) — Johnson City residents may soon see debate over whether Ten Commandments displays belong in local schools, after a Keystone pastor urged the Johnson City Schools board to consider them under a new state law. At the same meeting, the board upgraded a vacant behavior specialist role to a higher-level analyst position and approved a raise and car allowance adjustment for Superintendent Erin Slater.
   

4. A Boogie Wit da Hoodie, Shelailai to headline ETSU concert (johnsoncitypress.com) — Johnson City students and residents can look forward to A Boogie Wit da Hoodie headlining ETSU's SGA Fall Concert at Freedom Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 7 p.m. Student tickets open Sept. 15, with discounted faculty and staff sales Sept. 22 and public tickets, if available, online starting Sept. 29.
   

5. TN Gas Prices Rise 13 Cents (aaa.com) — Drivers in Johnson City are now paying about $3.75 per gallon for regular gas, as Tennessee's statewide average climbs to $3.80 after record-high Labor Day prices. AAA warns that strong travel demand and expensive crude oil could keep local prices volatile, even though gas use typically drops after the holiday weekend.
