Austin Area Halloween Weather Outlook Calls For Cold Weather
The National Weather Service predicts a low of 33 degrees, but the Weather Channel says it will be 41. Either way, it's going to be cold.
AUSTIN, TX — The National Weather Service has issued a "hazardous weather outlook" for Travis County on Thursday ahead of a low temperature expected to dip just below the sub-freezing point — on Halloween night, no less, when kids were anticipating a round of trick-or-treat fun.
Williamson County also is covered in the outlook advisory following a freeze warning for the area issued last night that expired at 10 a.m. The Austin area isn't the only one impacted by the cold. Other counties covered in the hazardous weather outlook include Llano; Burnet; Val Verde; Edwards; Real; Kerr; Bandera; Gillespie; Kendall; Blanco; Hays; Bastrop; Lee; Kinney; Uvalde; Medina; Bexar; Comal; Guadalupe; Caldwell; Fayette; Maverick; Zavala; Frio; Atascosa; Wilson; Karnes; Gonzales; De Witt; Lavaca; and Dimmit.
In short, the hazardous weather outlook covers the entire South-Central Texas region, meteorologists noted. Other than Williamson County, a freeze warning also was in effect across the Hill Country and Edwards plateau until 10 a.m. on Thursday. Forecasters noted a freeze warning will likely be issued for freezing temperatures across the Hill Country to along and east of northern parts of the Interstate 35 corridor for late tonight into Friday morning.

In Austin, the low temperature is expected to reach 33 degrees — tantalizingly close to the 32-degree freezing mark as predicted by the National Weather Service. Thankfully, northern winds will be gentle at 5 miles per hour. Friday night is expected to be cold as well (but not as much as the prior night) after a high near 62 degrees, when the low temperature will be around 40 degrees. Wind will remain light as it comes blowing in from the south-southeast at around 5 miles per hour before dissipating further in the evening.

And yet, the Weather Channel sees things differently without the urgency of a hazardous weather advisory. According to its hour-by-hour forecast, weather.com shows the low temperature will be 41 degrees by 11 p.m. on Thursday night and 39 come midnight. That's a difference eight-degree difference from what the National Weather Service is predicting.
Either way, it will be cold. So bundle up, especially you kids intent on getting that candy no matter what.
