Storm Threat Lingers For Austin Area

Large hail and damaging winds are once again the main threats today along a wide swath Thursday afternoon and evening.

AUSTIN, TX — The possibility of strong to severe storms continues into Thursday for the Austin area before the weather calms for a few days, forecasters said.

Large hail and damaging winds are once again the main threats today along a wide swath along and west of a Kerrville-to-San Antonio-to-Cuero line in the afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Austin-Travis County EMS wrote on Twitter that likely threats on Thursday include strong winds of up to 60 miles per hour, hail up to 1 1/2 inches and isolated tornadoes. The new round of storms will likely start in the western portions of the county between 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., and will move eastward.

A powerful strorm system swept through the region overnight, knocking out power and Internet service to some households. Some areas saw small hail.
