George H.W. Bush Celebrated And Buried In College Station

Following five days of public adoration, President George H.W. Bush's body will travel to College Station to be laid to rest.

COLLEGE STATION, TX -- After more than 3,000 political leaders, 12,000 Houstonians, and countless others on social media paid their respects, President George H.W. Bush was laid to rest Thursday afternoon alongside former first lady Barbara Bush and their daughter, Robin, who died from cancer at the age of 3. The private burial follows more than five days of public recognition that included a somber funeral at Washington National Cathedral attended by President Donald Trump, President Barack Obama, and Bush's son, President George W. Bush.

“To us his was the brightest of a thousand points of light," Bush, 72, said at the funeral.

Bush's body arrived in Houston Wednesday afternoon and was taken to St. Martin's Episcopal Church. Between roughly 4:45 p.m. Wednesday and 5:30 a.m. Thursday, as many as 12,000 people came out to pay their respect to the statesman.

A funeral service was held Thursday morning at the church. Bush arrived in College Station by train around 4 p.m.. Bush then was taken to his presidential library where a 21-aircraft Navy flyover, the largest missing man formation, took place. The F/A-18 Hornets and Super Hornets were flown to Fort Worth from Virginia for the ceremony, NBC DFW reported.
