ACROSS AMERICA — Springtime is a season of vigor and renewal, and Americans were out in force living their best lives this past weekend. They witnessed some big moments, too.

Detroit Tigers designated hitter Miguel Cabrera joined Major League Baseball's vaunted 3,000-hit club Saturday. The 39-year-old Venezuelan, only the 33rd player in the 119-year-history of MLB to reach the milestone, got his 3,000th hit before a hometown crowd in Comerica Park.

Another big moment in sports: Nasa Hataoka was crowned the winner of PGA's DIO Implant LA Open golf tournament.

And in Chicago, photographers had a field day at an unforgettable "Golden Girls" festival. See those and other photos from events you may have missed over the weekend:

Golden-Con, which continued through Sunday, gave those who adored the NBC sitcom a chance to mingle, see panels and buy merchandise. The show, which ran from 1985-1992, starred Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan, Estelle Getty and Betty White — who died at age 99 in December. (AP Photo/Terry Tang)
