Byron Nelson Tournament 2016 Live Updates: Sergio Garcia Wins Tournament in Playoff

Dallas native Jordan Spieth had a rough final round as Sergio Garcia defeated Brooks Koepka in a playoff.

IRVING, TX — Some of the worlds best golfers — such as Texas native Jordan Spieth — have descended on The Dallas-Forth Worth region to compete in the AT&T Byron Nelson golf tournament and win a share of its $7.3 million purse.

Spieth (No. 2) will be joined by six other players in the world top 20 rankings: Dustin Johnson (No. 8), Louis Oosthuizen (No. 13), Sergio Garcia (No. 15), Brandt Snedeker (No. 16), Zach Johnson (No. 18) and Brooks Koepka (#20).

After a tough final round for most of the golfers, especially Spieth, Garcia and Koepka ended up tied. Garcia won the playoff after Koepka hit his first shot into the water.

The tournament is named after Byron Nelson, a native of Waxahachie and one of the greatest players in the history of golf.

The Byron Nelson is one of the longest-running PGA Tour events, tracing its roots back to 1944 when it was called the Texas Victory Open. The tournament was renamed the Dallas Open and then the Dallas Invitational before being named the Byron Nelson Golf Classic in 1968. It's also worth noting that Nelson won that inaugural Texas Victory Open in 1944.
