Donald Trump Labels Hillary Clinton a 'Bigot' as He Attempts to Win Over Minorities

Donald Trump is on a new mission to attract minority voters by labeling Hillary Clinton a "bigot."

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on Wednesday night ratcheted up his attack against Democratic rival Hillary Clinton by labeling her a "bigot" — an apparent move to end her overwhelming lead among minority voters.

"Hillary Clinton is a bigot who sees people of color only as votes, not as human beings worthy of a better future," Trump said at a rally in Jackson, Mississippi, reading from prepared remarks.

"She's going to do nothing for African-Americans, she's going to do nothing for the Hispanics. She's only going to take care of herself, her husband, her consultants, her donors," Trump said. "These are the people she cares about."

Trump, with his new campaign team in place since last week, has attempted to court African-Americans and Latinos in an effort to end their low opinion of him. The New York businessman has the lowest support among black voters in the history of the modern GOP with just 1 to 2 percent support, according to recent polls.

The Republican nominee has recently softened his rhetoric on immigration, even delaying highly anticipated speeches on the subject this week as he attempts to find his comfort zone that satisfies early supporters while courting Latinos.

Trump on Wednesday said that it's time that Republicans gave Democrats some "competition" for support among minorities, pledging to rebuild inner cities across the country and help Latino communities with his policies on immigration.

For her part, Clinton shot back late Wednesday night, saying, "He is taking a hate movement mainstream," in a phone interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper.

"He has brought it into his campaign," she said, adding, "He is bringing it to our communities and our country."

Clinton said that Trump has "questioned the citizenship" of President Barack Obama and "courted white supremacists." She added that Trump "is very much peddling bigotry and prejudice and paranoia."

In recent national polling, Clinton leads head-to-head match-ups against Trump, with the Democrat holding 47 percent support compared to 42 percent for the New York businessman, according to averages compiled by RealClear Politics.
