NTI Launches New Training Process for Disabled Americans
For unemployed disabled Americans, the National Telecommuting Institute launches new training and hiring process.

May 17, 2021 (BOSTON, Mass.) – The National Telecommuting Institute (NTI) today announced the launch of a new digital hiring and training process specifically oriented to the needs and strengths of candidates with visible and invisible disabilities who are looking to work remotely. The 25-year-old nonprofit organization, which recruits, trains, and places disabled Americans in work-at-home jobs, has reimagined the entire recruitment process, allowing for more tailored job training and placement.
Employees whose disabilities make it difficult to go to an office during normal times have been trained by NTI to work-at-home for 25 years. This group also has valuable experience to offer regarding thriving in situations of isolation and alternate working arrangements. In 2020, the pandemic forced many U.S. companies to develop work-at-home operations for the first time. This reality has created many job opportunities for disabled persons.
NTI’s new process establishes a profile for each candidate, identifying their skillset, and pairing candidates with jobs. The video assessment takes about 25 minutes to complete and allows for flexibility for when people complete it. It allows everyone the option to rerecord their answers up to six times, if they want to make changes to their answers.

The video assessment consists of three parts:
● Recorded video questions focusing on past experiences in order to understand a candidate’s work history, strengths and skills.

● Multiple-choice questions focused on a candidate’s knowledge and comfort with using a computer
● Games measuring cognitive abilities and critical thinking skills
After careful consideration, NTI chose to collaborate with HireVue to create the new video assessment.
“We’re delighted to partner with NTI on their mission to train people with disabilities to find work-from-home call center jobs,” said Kevin Parker, Chairman and CEO of HireVue. “The work we do with our customers is always focused on democratizing hiring, and this video assessment will give participants with disabilities exposure to a process used by some of the country’s largest employers, better preparing them should they encounter it in future applications.”
After the assessment, candidates talk with a personal job coach who will focus on understanding the candidates’ needs and goals. After the interview process, candidates will enter the remote call center agent training process, which consists of three days of half-day training classes, including “a day in the life of a remote call center agent” classes, which features role playing expected phone calls.
“It’s been exciting to watch our recruitment process become more personalized for each remote call center agent, helping them find remote jobs that work for them. We have found success with many agents so far,” said NTI’s Chief Operating Officer, Alan Hubbard. “The candidate experience is so important to helping us to retain disabled talent.”
Angelica Jasper from Georgia was one of the first candidates to go through the new process. She enjoyed that she had the ability to rerecord her answers. “It is much better and less stressful. When you are talking, you don’t have to worry about what you are going to say and be stressed about it.”
