President Obama On Gun Control: Live Stream, Actions And More
The president was expected to announced executive action to curb gun violence.

President Barack Obama is scheduled to announce Tuesday the executive action he will take to curb gun violence following several high-profile mass shootings in the United States this year and throughout his presidency.
Obama met Monday with Attorney General Loretta Lynch to discuss what steps he could legally take without having to get a bill through Congress. No substantial gun control measures have been passed by Congress in years, gun-control advocates say, including those proposed after 20 children and six school staff members died in a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012.

- Expanded background checks by adding National Instant Criminal Background Check System staffers
- Requiring more businesses to obtain a license to sell firearms to close the so-called “gun shot loophole”
- Funding for 200 more ATF agents to better enforce gun laws
- $500 million in funding for mental health care
“Although we have to be very clear that this is not going to solve every violent crime in this country, it’s not going to prevent every mass shooting, it’s not going to keep every gun out of the hands of a criminal, it will potentially save lives and spare families the pain and the extraordinary loss that they’ve suffered as a consequence of a firearm getting in the hands of the wrong people,” Obama said at a press briefing Monday following his meeting with Lynch.
The President’s address was scheduled for 11:40 a.m. ET Tuesday. Watch a live stream of Obama’s remarks on gun control below:
