Father And Son From Texas Among Those Killed In Attack At Nice, France [UPDATED]

Sean Copeland and his son Brodie Copeland, 11, were from Lakeway.

Austin, TX — A father and son from Lakeway, Texas, are among victims of the Thursday attack in France, according to a social media post by officials of the baseball club for which the younger victim played.

"This evening we would like to ask that the HC family keep the Copelands in your prayers," officials of the Hill Country Baseball Club posted on Facebook on Thursday. "This afternoon, our very own Brody [sic] Copeland, as well as his father Sean Copeland, were killed during the terrorist attack in Nice, France."

The post referred to one of the youth baseball club's players, 11-year-old Brodie Copeland, who was killed with his father, Sean Copeland, 51, while they were visiting Nice together. An administrator for the club's Facebook page included a picture with the tragic news of their deaths.

The elder Copeland worked for Lexmark Corporation, as vice president of North America and South America for the company's software division, according to media reports. Brodie’s mother’s Facebook page identifies her as a stay-at-home mom.

"This photo was sent to me earlier today from the French Riviera," the administrator for the ball clubwrote, including a photo of the younger Copeland frolicking on the surf. "Nobody deserves this type of fate, especially not such a wonderful family. You are in our hearts, thoughts, and prayers. Rest in peace, Brodie and Sean, you will be remembered by many."

Followers on the page were stunned at the news, with hundreds of messages of condolences added to the ensuing thread following the original post.

"No words can describe how we feel," one person wrote. "Sean and Brodie touched our lives in so many ways. Such a good man and a great kid and teammate."

Lakeway is a suburb located some 16 miles west of Austin.

A truck filled with explosives and other munitions drove into a crowd of people celebrating Bastille Day in Nice on Thursday. At last count, 84 fatalities -- including ten children -- have been reported as a result of the attacks.

A family member on Friday posted a picture on her Twitter account that showed the last time Brodie got together with his cousins before the tragedy. The victims were her uncle and cousin, she said.

The family has set up a GoFundMe drive to raise money for the family.

"They were on a European vacation that began in Spain before moving on to the south of France," the GoFundMe narrative reads. "Brodie was cooling off in the waters of the Riviera just hours before he joined hundreds of spectators on the Promenade des Anglais to watch fireworks for France’s national holiday."

According to the post, Brodie had been playing baseball at Hill Country since the fall of 2014.

Heather Copeland posted news of the tragedy, along with the link to the GoFundMe drive. But were it possible, she'd rather just have her uncle and cousin back, she said in a post:

I just want my cousin and uncle back
