Elk Attacks Tourists In Estes Park: Video

A Colorado parks supervisor used a truck to stop a charging elk from attacking visitors.

ESTES PARK, CO — A video shows an aggressive bull elk charging at a group of tourists in Estes Park and attacking a woman. A local parks supervisor used his truck to block the elk attack and protect the visitors.

The video was taken by an Oklahoma couple as they were sitting in their car outside the park's visitors center near Rocky Mountain National Park.

The elk was aggravated by a camera flash, CNN reported. The video shows visitors scrambling to get away as the elk attacks them with its long horns. One woman was unable to escape and was repeatedly butted by the animal.

A local parks supervisor was able to drive a truck between the woman and the elk while the animal was backing up to charge. The elk then charged at the truck, leaving a large hole in the vehicle's side.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials are warning people to keep their distance from elks, particularly during their mating season from mid-September to mid-October. Males become especially aggressive during this time, officials said.
