Sheriff Announces National Correctional Officers Week
"Our correctional officers in Rockland County play a vital role in the criminal justice system."
Press release from the Rockland Co. Sheriff’s Office:
May 5, 2021
In 1984, President Ronald Reagan announced the first week in May as National Correctional Officers Week. This year, May 2-8 is the designated week. During this week, Sheriffs, correctional administrators and others in government recognize correctional officers, who exemplify professionalism, integrity and strength in the face of their difficult and dangerous work environment. We know that our correctional officers in Rockland County play a vital role in the criminal justice system, but too often their roles and good works are overshadowed by other events and circumstances.

Sheriff Louis Falco III would like to remind the public about the contributions of our Rockland County Corrections Officers and staff. The Rockland County Correctional Center provides a variety of services to incarcerated people that include work skills programs, GED and other educational opportunities, drug and alcohol counselling, and jail re-entry programs that help inmates return to society and reduce recidivism. All of these programs rely on the expertise and experience of our Corrections Officers working together with other certified professionals.
Correction Officers also often are highly visible in their hometowns, volunteering their time to serve and improve their communities. Sheriff Falco would take a moment to recognize these officers for all their good works and deeds, and for their importance to the law enforcement community.
