Without Urgent Action, Coronavirus Could Overwhelm U.S.: Study

A new analysis by Columbia University researcher​s shows how much the new coronavirus could impact the country in the coming months.

A new study by Columbia University researchers illustrates just how far the new coronavirus could spread and affect Americans if strict control measures aren't enacted quickly.

The study used a New York Times database of known cases and Census Bureau transportation data to model how the outbreak could evolve. While the estimates could change, they offer a stark warning: Even if the country cut its rate of transmission in half, some 650,000 people might become infected over the next two months.
