Bill Zavestoski is the sports editor for Patch in San Diego County, covering all forms of sports and recreation in our outdoor paradise.
Zavestoski headed west from his native Long Island more than 30 years ago and has lived in the San Carlos area of San Diego since 1982.
Zavestoski's career has included writing and editing positions at several area publications as well as stints in the sports public relations field (he actually was advance man for the pro racquetball tour when that sport boomed in the late '70s). More recently, he served as a senior content producer for SignOnSanDiego.com and sports and recreation producer at Cox Communications' SanDiegoInsider.com.
The lifelong baseball fan and third cousin of Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski has served as an official scorer for Major League Baseball in San Diego since 1984, deciding on hits and errors in more than 1,500 Padres games (please don't boo the scorer; save it for the umps). He also serves as statistician for the radio announcing crews at Chargers and Aztecs football games.
In addition to overseeing the Patch sports coverage, Zavestoski will cover recreational opportunities, from lakes to golf courses to hiking trails.
Drop him an e-mail if you'd like to suggest coverage, or maybe catch him walking Lake Murray or chasing a little white ball around a nearby golf course.
