Off-Duty Cop Kills Teen Attempting Xbox Robbery In Richmond: Cops

The officer, who was not wearing his police uniform, was shot in the chest in the parking lot of the Chestertowne Shopping Center.

RICHMOND, VA — A teen boy pulled a gun during an Xbox sale in the parking lot of the Chestertowne Shopping Center and was killed in a shootout with an off-duty police officer, police said. The officer was an associate of a man who agreed to sell the electronic gaming system to the teen, said Chesterfield police Major Frank Carpenter.

The shooting happened around 12:30 a.m. Monday. Gunfire erupted between the officer and the teen when the boy pulled out a pistol, Carpenter said.

"It was an attempted robbery by the juvenile," Carpenter said.

The officer, who was not wearing his police uniform, was shot in the chest and is expected to survive. He was treated at a hospital and released.

The boy died at the scene. Their identities were not immediately released. No one else was hurt.

Authorities are asking anyone with any information about the incident to call the department or an anonymous tips line.
