Pappy Van Winkle Whiskey Lottery Returns To Virginia

Starting Feb. 15, Virginians have a chance to purchase several rare whiskeys from Kentucky's Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery.

RICHMOND, VA — The Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority this week reopened lotteries for whiskeys from Kentucky's Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery, giving stores and whiskey connoisseurs a chance to secure bottles of what officials call the "hardest to find spirit."

Through the ABC lotteries, Virginians can enter online to win a chance to purchase various bottles of Pappy Van Winkle bourbon and rye.

Whiskeys available through the lotteries include Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve Bourbon 23 Year, 20 Year, and 15 Year; Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye 13 Year; Van Winkle Special Reserve Bourbon 12 Year; and Old Rip Van Winkle Bourbon 10 Year.

The dates for each online lottery, the number of bottles available and product prices are:

Feb. 15-19

  • Old Rip Van Winkle Bourbon 10 Year ($79.99) - 298 bottles available
  • Van Winkle Special Reserve Bourbon 12 Year ($89.99) – 1,010 bottles available
  • Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye 13 Year ($129.99) – 96 bottles available

Winners will be notified by March 13.

March 8-12

  • Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 15 Year ($139.99) –74 bottles available
  • Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 20 Year ($229.99) – 146 bottles available
  • Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 23 Year ($329.99) – 1 bottle available

Winners will be notified by April 3.

According to Virginia ABC, each lottery entry form will be available online for five days. The lottery is open to individual Virginia residents 21 and older. A separate lottery will be held for mixed beverage licensees.

Winners will be selected randomly in a drawing from all valid entries received during the entry period. Winners must provide proof of Virginia residency to make a purchase.
