VA Dad On Trial For Killing Son, Hiding Body In Freezer For 2 Years

Kassceen "Kass" Weaver was charged with multiple felonies after VA authorities said he hid his young son's remains in a freezer for years.

RICHMOND, VA — The trial for a former University of Richmond basketball player accused of killing his young son and hiding his body in a freezer for more than two years started in Chesterfield County this week, according to multiple reports.

Kassceen "Kass" Weaver was charged with felony murder, felony child neglect, and concealing a dead body in October 2021 after the remains of his son, Eliel Adon Weaver — also known as Adon — were discovered in a freezer in the family's home five months earlier, the Associated Press reported.

Police discovered the remains after the brother of Adon's mother, Dina Weaver, contacted authorities because he believed she was in a potential domestic violence situation, according to a WRIC report. Police obtained a search warrant and later found the boy's remains, the report said.

Authorities determined Adon's remains had been in the freezer for at least two and a half years, WRIC reported. The child was less than five years old at the time of his death.

Both parents were arrested following the discovery; however, prosecutors dropped charges against Dina Weaver in October 2022, reports said.

During opening statements Monday, prosecutors said Adon's body was in the freezer inside a vacuum-sealed bag and plastic storage bin, WTVR reported.

According to prosecutors, an autopsy revealed Adon had skull fractures, a fracture of one of his upper arms, and rib fractures.

Reports said Weaver was a stay-at-home dad and primary caregiver to his and Dina Weaver's two sons.

Meanwhile, Weaver's attorneys said he decided to preserve his child's remains because he could not "bear to let go of him," according to reports. Defense attorneys also said Adon was developmentally delayed and had crying episodes that would cause him to pass out. According to reports, defense attorneys said Adon had an episode 10 days before and on the day of his death.
