VA Husband Tied Wife To Basement Chair So He Could Watch Football: Report

Richmond police confirmed the abduction arrest but said detectives have not released information about the circumstances or motive.

RICHMOND, VA — A Richmond man is accused of tying his wife to a chair in the basement while he watched football upstairs, according to reports cited by the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Terry Ward, 64, was arrested early Oct. 12 and charged with felony abduction by force and misdemeanor assault on a family member. Officers were called to the couple’s Maplewood Avenue home around 11:30 p.m. the previous night for a domestic disturbance, the Times-Dispatch reported.

Ward’s wife told police that he restrained her with tape for 30 to 45 minutes, according to a criminal complaint obtained by the newspaper. The responding officer reported seeing tape marks around both of her arms and wrote that Ward admitted tying her to a chair and placing her in the basement.
