Virginia Woman Falls 8 Floors From Apartment Window, Police Say
The woman, a student at the University of Georgia, was dancing when she fell out of an open window and down eight floors, police say.
ATHENS, GA — Police say a Virginia woman was seriously injured after falling from an eighth-floor window in Athens, Georgia, on Saturday.
The accident happened at an apartment on West Broad Street, Athens-Clarke County police said Monday. The woman was identified as 21-year-old Kristen Elizabeth Sargent, according to an NBC News report.
Police said Sargent was dancing on a couch near an open window when she fell out of the window and down eight floors, landing on the pool deck.

Police said she was alert and conscious following the fall, but suffered serious injuries.
Police believe a cushioned metal bench might have broken the 5-foot-7, 115-pound woman’s fall, NBC News reported.

“I arrived and spoke with bystanders who advised that the female victim had been dancing on a couch or air mattress which was near an open window and had apparently fallen through the screen and onto the ground below,” Police Sgt. Erik Ellison wrote in a report.
Sargent's current condition was not immediately known on Wednesday.
