Wrong-Way Driver Slams Into Virginia State Police Cruiser On I-295: Report

A Virginia State Police trooper was injured and a man was arrested after a wrong-way crash in Prince George County Sunday.

A Virginia State Trooper was injured when his car was hit by a wrong-way driver traveling at high speed on Interstate 295 in Prince George County early Sunday morning, according to reports.

WTKR reports that Edward Junious Whitby, 71, of Newport News, has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence and driving the wrong way on a highway after slamming head-on into a VSP cruiser on 295 just north of the 460 exit at about 4 a.m.

VSP had received multiple calls that Whitby was traveling south in the northbound lanes of I-295, according to the outlet. He reportedly hit a police cruiser that was driving at him with its sirens and lights on.
