Arlington Coronavirus Update: 3,400 Total Cases Reported

ARLINGTON, VA — Virginia Department of Health reported no additional deaths Monday due to COVID-19, the illness associated with the new coronavirus, in the Arlington Health District. The total of COVID-19-related deaths in the Arlington Health District remains at 137.

VDH officials reported 17 new coronavirus cases Monday, which is down from from the 26 new cases reported on Sunday. This brings the total to 3,400.

In the health district, there have been a total of 449 hospitalized patients to date.

As of Monday, there are 113,630 total cases statewide, according to data reported by the Virginia Department of Health. In Virginia, there have been 2,471 coronavirus-related deaths to date. There have been a total of 9,207 hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

VDH reported Monday that 48,244 COVID-19 tests have been taken in Arlington, with a 5.7 percent positivity rate. Statewide there have been 1,599,596 COVID-19 tests taken, with a 6.7 percent positivity rate, according to VDH.

There have been 19 coronavirus outbreaks in the Arlington Health District as of Monday, with 559 cases related to an outbreak. There have been 14 outbreaks at long-term care facilities, two outbreaks at a congregate setting and three outbreaks in health care settings in Arlington. There have been 192 reported coronavirus cases in Arlington involving health care workers.

Globally, more than 23.4 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and over 809,000 people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Monday morning. In the United States, more than 5.7 million people have been infected and over 176,000 people have died from COVID-19.

Arlington residents should take the following actions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:

• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. An alcohol-based hand sanitizer can be used if soap and water are not available.
• Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
