Dulles South Station Police Report: Ashburn Man Found Dead In Reservoir After Canoeing Incident

A summary of incidents reported for Nov. 24-30.

 

There was one assist fire rescue, one auto theft, two burglaries, three destruction of property incidents, five larcenies, one suspicious event and one incident of vehicle tampering included in the Dulles South Station Daily Crime Reports for the week ending on Nov. 30.

  • The body of a missing boater was recovered just before noon on Monday, Nov. 28 in the Beaverdam Creek Reservoir. The victim, Anthony M. DiGiovanna, 49, of Ashburn, was canoeing with his 7-year-old son and a dog Sunday afternoon when their boat capsized around 2:30 p.m. Loudoun County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 42500 block of Mount Hope Road in Ashburn, Va. to assist Loudoun Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management with a water rescue. The 7-year-old, who was wearing a life jacket, was assisted to the shore by nearby witnesses. He was taken to a local hospital as a precaution and was released on Monday. The adult male was not immediately located. A search of the reservoir was conducted throughout the evening into Monday morning by members of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Underwater Search and Recovery Team with aerial and ground search support from the Fairfax County Police Department. The victim was not wearing a life jacket at the time the boat capsized. Read the . Auto Theft 

  • Between 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23 and 5:25 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 24, unknown subject(s) removed a 1995 Kenworth construction tractor from the 43100 block of John Mosby Highway. 

Burglary

  • Between 2 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 25, unknown subject(s) entered a residence on the 24000 block of Rochester Lane and removed cash and a set of keys.
  • Unknown subject(s) entered an unsecured vehicle on the 42600 block of Good Hope Lane and used the garage door opener to gain access to the garage between 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29 and 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30. A bicycle was removed from the garage. A GPS unit and a laptop were taken from the vehicle.  

Destruction of Property

  • Between 11 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 25 and 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26, unknown subject(s) damaged the tire of a vehicle on the 25800 block of Pinebluff Drive. 
  • Between 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 25 and 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 28, unknown subject(s) spray painted a vehicle on the 25200 block of Lake Shore Square.
  • Between 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26 and 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30, unknown subject(s) damaged the window of a construction vehicle on the 41500 block of Sacred Mountain Street.  

Larcenies 

  • Between 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26 and 7 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 27, unknown subject(s) entered a home under construction on the 23300 block of Waterleaf Drive and removed kitchen cabinets. 
  • Between 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29 and 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30, unknown subject(s) entered a vehicle on the 42400 block of Moreland Point Court and removed a smart phone. A window was damaged to gain entry. 
  • Between 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29 and 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30, unknown subject(s) removed a drill from an open garage on the 42700 block of Explorer Drive. 
  • Unknown subject(s) entered an unlocked vehicle on the 23000 block of Meriweather Court and removed sunglasses between 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 28 and 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30. 
  • Between 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29 and 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30, unknown subject(s) removed bathroom fixtures from a home under construction on the 42600 block of Orefield Terrace.  

Suspicious Event 

  • Around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30, a resident of the 40900 block of Lewis Court was awakened by a noise and went to investigate before notifying authorities. An exterior door leading to the garage was found partially open. Loudoun Deputies were called to the scene and searched the area. There were no signs of forced entry and nothing was reported missing.  

Vehicle Tampering

  • Around 3 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26, unknown subject(s) entered an unlocked vehicle on the 22400 block of Pine Ridge Court and removed a GPS unit, an MP3 player and a digital camera.
