Will Hurricane Irma Hit Virginia?

Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center issued a stark warning to interests in the Caribbean Sea Tuesday morning as Hurricane Irma moved into the region packing maximum sustained winds of 180 mph. Officially upgraded to a powerful Category 5 storm, Irma also poses a threat to Cuba and a wide swath of the East Coast, including coastal Virginia if it turns north once it reaches Florida, which many computer models are predicting.

It's day nine of the "March to End White Supremacy," and participants are en route to Merrifield on their way to DC to stand against white supremacy. Weeks after violence broke out in Charlottesville between white nationalists and counter-protesters, marchers are heading from the city's Emancipation Park to DC.

Teen Dies In Triple Shooting During Family Gathering In Southeast

A 19-year-old girl was shot and killed in a triple shooting during a family gathering at her home in Southeast Washington Saturday, police said. Police are actively searching for the shooter who killed Unique Davis, and shot her boyfriend and older sister.

Alexandria Man Sentenced For Sexually Abusing Child

An Alexandria man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for repeatedly sexually abusing an 11-year-old child. John Tyler Ellis, a 54, had been found guilty of seven felony charges: three counts of forcible sodomy, three counts of aggravated sexual battery, and one count of indecent liberties with a child.
