Weird News: Sinkholes, Mouse Droppings, Police Chases, Hating Mother's Day and Loving Kate Middleton
It's time for this week's roundup of the region's wackiest news.

Editor's Note: Patch has 31 sites in Virginia and D.C., and not a day goes by that something weird isn't happening in at least one of them. Here's a look back at some weird goings on over the past week. Weird Virginia/DC usually runs on Patch sites every Saturday.
Everyone knows that Northern Virginia and DC traffic is notoriously bad. Add a sinkhole to the mix, and you've got problems. That's what happened in Reston this week . Fairfax Water and road crews patched the spot by the evening rush hour, and thankfully no one was injured by the giant hole in the road.
We realize everybody hates traffic, but somebody out there also hates Mother's Day. When our Patches ran a contest asking for fond memories of Mom, we didn't expect this. But we got it.

"My mother is a mentally ill narcissist. She spent decades mentally abusing me and my siblings. When I was 27 she called my employer in an attempt to get me fired because I'd "slighted" her in some way, unknown to me. When my sister was 28 she called my sister's fiancee and claimed that my sister was cheating on him. She's a plague. Death can't come soon enough for her. I hate Mother's day.”
No response yet from Mom.

We've heard of salt in restaurants but not assaults. Police reported that the man wasn't seriously injured, and police didn't catch the suspect. No word on whether the restaurant patron got to finish his meal.
Do you think Kate Middleton will want to stop in Old Town someday and see a building named after her? : The Middleton, as in Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge. Alexandria’s Planning Commission approved plans Tuesday for The Middleton, a row of four, three-story townhomes named after Kate Middleton because of its location at the corner of Royal and Princess streets.
. We're talking about the odd case of Albrecht Muth, the man accused of killing his wife and who has said he thought he was an Iraqi general. Now that he's eating again, that means he is back in jail. He was recently discharged from United Medical Center and returned to DC jail, according to a May 1 email now in court records. Muth is charged with first-degree murder in the strangling death of his late wife, Viola Drath, in her Georgetown home in August 2011.
Muth's trial for the murder of his late wife had been set to begin in March, but his on-again, off-again hunger strike rendered him incapable of standing, or even sitting up. Doctors told the court on several occasions that Muth was at "imminent risk of death."
We were going to make a joke about pu pu platters, but this is no laughing matter in . Charlie Chiang's Restaurant in Herndon had six critical, and 13 non-critical violations on its most recent restaurant inspection, on April 29. The inspector noted the following in his report: "Observed that surfaces around the cooking equipment was not clean and full of grease. Also, observed mice droppings on cans in the dry storage area."
While local residents were wondering what was going on, police were drawing their weapons and police dogs were sniffing around, on the hunt for the teen; he had fled from Roanoke and eventually abandoned his car and fled on foot in the Vienna neighborhood. They found him under a porch. The teen is facing several charges.
