• Finn prepares for school job (farmvilleherald.com) — Cumberland County students will soon have a new four-legged helper, as therapy dog Finn is introduced at the Oct. 1 School Board meeting and begins regular visits to campuses. The three-year-old Australian shepherd is finishing certification and will support students' emotional well-being and learning, reflecting broader research showing therapy dogs can reduce stress and boost engagement.
   

• 69-year-old woman dead after Cumberland crash (wric.com) — A 69-year-old woman has died after a multi-vehicle crash on Anderson Highway near Vogel Road in Cumberland County, where a stopped pickup was pushed into her by another SUV after hitting a downed tree. State Police say charges are pending against the Expedition driver, highlighting ongoing safety concerns along this key route for local residents.
   

• AI programs offered for business, students (farmvilleherald.com) — High schoolers in Cumberland County can join the free AI Innovation Challenge, forming teams to tackle local problems with help from Longwood University mentors and competing for up to $5,000 in implementation funding.
