2-Year-Old Murder-Suicide Victim Identified By Police

Child allegedly was killed by her father, 58-year-old Roy Eugene Rumsey, in a July 27 house fire, according to Fairfax County Police.

FAIRFAX, VA — Fairfax County Police have released the name of the 2-year-old girl thought to have been killed by her father late last month in an apparent murder-suicide.

She's identifed as Kyra Franchetti.

Relatives had reportedly urged police not to release her identity, saying it would cause further emotional pain for the family.

The other person who died, 58-year-old Roy Eugene Rumsey, allegedly killed his daughter before fatally shooting himself in the head after starting a fire that heavily damaged a house, according to police.

Official policy is to release the names of all homicide victims.

The fire, on July 27, was at 12107 Fairfax Hunt Road, and Rumsey owned the house.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene shortly after 11 a.m. and found flames on both the first and second floors of the home.

It took firefighters about 40 minutes to extinguish the fire, after which they entered the home and found the toddler and Rumsey.
