Suicide Cause Of Inmate's Death At Fairfax Detention Center: Updated
The medical examiner determined that a 55-year-old Haymarket man's death at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center was a suicide.

FAIRFAX, VA — After conducting an autopsy of 55-year-old Kyung Pil Chang, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that the Haymarket man had committed suicide by hanging himself in his cell at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
The medical examiner performed the autopsy on Wednesday morning, a day after Chang was found unresponsive in his single cell, according to a police release.
Chang, a massage therapist, was charged last Thursday on three counts of aggravated sexual battery, one warrant for object sexual penetration, and practicing as an unlicensed masseuse. The charges stemmed from a Jan. 25 incident at the Annandale Gerontology Clinic at 4216 Evergreen Lane.

Chang is the second inmate to die within a two-day period at the detention center. George Redmond, 65, was found unresponsive in his single cell on Monday morning. He was later declared dead and preliminary evidence indicated no foul play was involved, according police.
As part of county policy, FCPD is responsible for investigating all deaths at the county's detention center.
