3 Hospitalized Following 2-Vehicle Crash On I-66 Express Lanes: Police

Three people involved in a pair of early morning crashes on the I-66 Express Lanes in Fairfax County were hospitalized.

FAIRFAX, VA — Three people were hospitalized, two seriously, following a pair of early morning crashes in the westbound I-66 Express Lanes in Fairfax County on Sunday, according to Virginia State Police.

Around 3:43 a.m., the driver of a Toyota Camry heading west in the Express Lanes lost control of their car, struck the jersey wall, and came to a stop in the left travel lane, according to VSP. As a result of the crash, the Camry lost all power and went dark.

Moments later, a Ranger Rover traveling in the left lane struck the Camry, according to VSP. The crash caused two passengers in the SUV, who were not wearing their seatbelts, to be thrown from the vehicle. They were taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries.

Police reported that the driver of the Range Rover and another passenger refused medical treatment at the scene of the crash. The driver of the Camry was taken to the hospital. No information was provided about the extent of the Camry driver's injuries.
