All I-66 Westbound Lanes Closed Overnight At Route 50 In Fairfax
VDOT work crews will be closing all lanes of westbound I-66 Wednesday night in the Fair Oaks area to shift lanes to new pavement.
FAIR OAKS, VA — Motorists traveling west on I-66 outside the Capital Beltway in Fairfax County Wednesday night may want to find an alternate route.
During overnight hours on Wednesday, the Virginia Department of Transportation will be closing all westbound lanes of I-66 approaching Route 50 to allow work crews to shift westbound lanes to new pavement.
Starting at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, westbound traffic flow on I-66 will be reduced to a single lane before Route 50. At 1 a.m., all westbound lanes will be closed to traffic.

While all westbound lanes are closed, VDOT will direct motorists to exit I-66 at Route 50 West, travel south on Route 608 (West Ox Road), exit right onto Route 50 East, and then follow signs to rejoin I-66 West.

Work crews will reopen one lane of westbound I-66 at 4:30 a.m. and two lanes at 5 a.m. All westbound lanes are scheduled to reopen at 7 a.m.

The ramp from Route 50 West to I-66 will be closed between 10:30 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. Motorists will be detoured to West Ox Road South and then directed to exit onto eastbound Route 50. They'll then follow signs to I-66 West.

VDOT will also close the ramp from I-66 West to eastbound Route 50 from 10:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Drivers who wish to travel eastbound on Route 50 will be detoured to Fairfax County Parkway (Route 286) South. They'll then travel east on I-66 and exit onto eastbound Route 50.
In case of inclement weather, the closures will be pushed back to Thursday night.
The work on I-66 is part of the ongoing Route 50 Interchange Project, which is adding express lanes to the the interstate, installing noise walls, and replacing the Route 50 overpasses.
