Coronavirus Cases, Hospitalizations In Virginia Trending Downward
The Virginia Department of Health reported 2,861 new cases of the coronavirus Monday, well below the seven-day average of 4,146 daily cases.
VIRGINIA — The Virginia Department of Health reported 2,861 new cases of the coronavirus Monday, up slightly from the 2,558 new cases reported Sunday but well below the seven-day average of 4,146 daily cases.
Across the state, Fairfax County was the jurisdiction with the most new cases on Monday, with 236. Prince William County reported the third most of any jurisdiction in Virginia, with 167 new cases.
According to a note from the VDH, "Surveillance system upgrades occurring on Saturday, January 30, 2021, will affect the data on the COVID-19 Cases & Testing Dashboards on January 31 and February 1, 2021. A decrease in the number of cases and tests reported on January 31, and an increase in the number of cases and tests reported on February 1 is anticipated because of these upgrades."

Despite the upgrades, case and hospitalization numbers are continuing to trend down somewhat. The seven-day average of daily cases peaked at 6,166 on Jan. 18.
The new cases on Monday included 658 in Northern Virginia, which has a seven-day average of 991 daily cases.

There were 10 new COVID-19 deaths reported statewide Monday. Since the start of the pandemic, 6,474 people in Virginia have died from the disease.
The average of current COVID-19 hospitalizations also peaked on Jan. 18 at 3,290.9, but numbers have fallen since then. VDH reported 2,441 current patients, including 478 in the intensive care units and 304 on ventilators. Northern Virginia has 437 current COVID-19 patients.
Hospitals across Virginia are reporting 2,446 COVID-19 patients. ICU occupancy among all hospital patients is at 81 percent, and ventilator use is at 35 percent, according to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association.
The latest seven-day average of positive PCR tests is 11.7 percent for Virginia as of Jan. 28, while Northern Virginia's average stands at 10.2 percent. The average of daily testing encounters stands at 28,320 for Virginia as a whole and 7,185 for Northern Virginia.
As of Monday, Virginia had administered 843,230 doses of the COVID-19 vaccines. According to the Virginia Department of Health, 8.4 percent of the population has been vaccinated with at least one dose so far, while 109,465 people on the Phase 1a and 1b priority lists have been fully vaccinated.
Virginia is averaging more than 31,000 doses administered per day, and 8.1 percent of the population has at least the first dose. To date, 805,695 doses have been administered and 1,221,350 doses have been distributed in the state. There are 688,561 people with at least one dose and 124,407 people fully vaccinated.

- Loudoun County: 20,484 cases, 765 hospitalizations, 181 deaths; increase of 100 cases
- Manassas: 3,725 cases, 155 hospitalizations, 33 deaths; increase of 29 cases
- Manassas Park: 1,070 cases, 66 hospitalizations, eight deaths; no changes
- Prince William County: 35,412 cases, 1,318 hospitalizations, 313 deaths; increase of 167 cases and two hospitalizations
