Build Your Own Tumbling Composter

You will start this workshop with a pile of recycled lumber, a recycled pickle barrel, and assorted screws and bolts, but you will leave with a fully functioning tumbler style composter!  Join the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District, the Mason Sustainability Institute, and ReBuild as they take you through the construction steps and also give you some primers on proper composting techniques.  The finished composter will hold 55 gallons of organic material. Take the composter home, fill it with scraps, give it a twirl, and watch as that material turns into humus, the black gold prized by gardeners, farmers and homeowners alike!   All lumber will be pre-cut and all tools and materials will be provided.  The cost of the workshop is $75 and registration is limited to 15 people, although you may bring a helper or two to assist with the construction if you like. If you have access to a van, truck, hatchback, or SUV, please bring this so that you can easily transport the composter home. We will also have rope available to tie the composter to trucks.
