Whole Foods pres. Seafood Sustainability Rankings

Starting January 25, Whole Foods will implement a color-coded seafood sustainability ranking system developed by Blue Ocean Institute and Monterey Bay Aquarium to help consumers choose more environmental food options.

  • Green - species is plentiful; fishing methods inflict little damage to nearby habitats and wildlife
  • Yellow - Some issues with species population or fishing methods
  • Red - species suffers from overfishing; fishing methods inflict serious damage to nearby habitats and wildlife
  • Gray - Not yet ranked
