FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Virginia Department of Health confirmed four additional cases of COVID-19, the illness associated with the new coronavirus, Monday in Fairfax City. That's about half the nine reported on Sunday.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Fairfax City stands at 395.

No new deaths were reported in Fairfax City on Monday. The last COVID-19-related death was reported on Dec 9. The total number of COVID-19-related deaths in Fairfax City stands at 10. A total of 27 people have been hospitalized in Fairfax City due to COVID-19.

As of Monday morning, 23 doses of the coronavirus vaccine have been administered in Fairfax City.

VDH reported that 710,849 COVID-19 tests have been taken in Fairfax County, with an 11.9 percent positivity rate. Statewide there have been 6,234,212 COVID-19 tests taken, with a 12.2 percent positivity rate.

There have been 274 outbreaks of COVID-19 in the Fairfax County Health District. There have been 94 outbreaks at long-term care facilities, 114 in a congregate setting, eight at a correctional facility, nine in healthcare settings, 29 at a child care facilities, two at a college or a university, and 18 at a K-12 school setting.

The total number of cases associated with an outbreak is 4,657. There have been 2,238 reported coronavirus cases in Fairfax County involving health care workers.

There have been 478,619 total cases statewide, according to data reported by the Virginia Department of Health. In Virginia, there have been 6,081 coronavirus-related deaths to date. There have been a total of 20,764 hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

Fairfax City residents should take the following actions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. An alcohol-based hand sanitizer can be used if soap and water are not available.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
