Fairfax City Residents Prepare For Winter Storm
In anticipation of this weekend's winter storm, Fairfax City residents stock up on shovels, bags of salt, batteries and other essentials.
FAIRFAX CITY, VA — On Thursday, Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger declared a state of emergency ahead of this weekend's winter storm. The latest forecast predicts 10 inches of snow falling on the Washington, D.C. region, bringing cold temperatures with it.
In anticipation, Fairfax residents began flocking to area hardware stores to stock up on shovels, bags of salt, sleds and batteries.
Tyler, the manager at Ace Hardware in Fairfax City, said that he has seen a lot of extra foot traffic in the store from Tuesday night and into Wednesday.

"We always like to make sure that we're stocked ahead of time, and we did have a fair bit of stock already going into this week," he said. "We're really fortunate to have a buying team that pays close attention to the upcoming weather, so they've been doing a lot to make sure that we have additional product coming in."

In the next couple of days, trucks will be delivering additional Ice Melt, which has been in high demand, according to Tyler.
The Ace Hardware store at 10310-B Main St. has been in operation for 15 years. Over his 12-year tenure as manager, Tyler's seen a lot of winter storms.
"Every winter is different," he said. "You can never count on the weather here. But, we try to be as prepared as possible, and it's always a fair bit of excitement and activity when the weather finally comes through."
