Fairfax County Reports Most New Coronavirus Cases In Virginia
Two Northern Virginia jurisdictions — Fairfax and Prince William counties — led Virginia in new coronavirus cases reported Friday.
VIRGINIA — The Virginia Department of Health reported 1,183 additional coronavirus cases on Friday, bringing the cumulative total to 164,124 cases. The seven-day average of positive PCR tests remains below 5 percent for the state as a whole. There were 20 new deaths reported on Friday, and the latest cumulative death count is 3,408.
Two Northern Virginia jurisdictions led the state in new coronavirus cases on Friday. At 120, Fairfax County had the most new cases, followed by Prince William County with the second most in the state at 61 new cases.
Statewide, cumulative hospitalizations stand at 11,780, while current patient numbers totaled 1,002 as of Friday. That includes 227 in the central region, 223 in the northern region, 222 in the southwest region, 195 in the eastern region and 135 in the northwest region.

According to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association, there are 104 COVID-19 patients on ventilators and 222 in the intensive care units. Ventilator use among all hospital patients is at 23 percent of capacity as of Friday, while ICU occupancy stands at 81 percent. No hospitals are reporting difficulty obtaining personal protective equipment or other medical supplies in the next 72 hours.
Friday's 1,183 new cases included 336 in the southwest region, 271 in the northern region, 209 in the eastern region, 208 in the northwest region, and 159 in the northwest region.

As for the positive rate of PCR tests, the latest statewide seven-day average is 4.8 percent on Oct. 12. Regions in the 4-percent range are the central region (4.5 percent), northwest region (4.4 percent), northern region (4.1 percent) and eastern region (4.0 percent). The southwest region's average is 7.2 percent.
Statewide, 2,346,899 PCR tests have been completed, an increase of 20,097 from Thursday. To find testing locations and testing events, visit the VDH website.

- Alexandria: 4,086 cases, 323 hospitalizations, 74 deaths; increase of nine cases and one death. Removal of one hospitalization
- Arlington County: 4,318 cases, 518 hospitalizations, 153 deaths; increase of 40 cases and one death
- Fairfax County: 22,460 cases, 2,207 hospitalizations, 600 deaths; increase of 120 cases and six hospitalizations. Removal of one death
- Fairfax City: 146 cases, 13 hospitalizations, eight deaths; increase of one case
- Falls Church: 75 cases, 13 hospitalizations, seven deaths; no changes
- Loudoun County: 7,454 cases, 463 hospitalizations, 129 deaths; increase of 37 cases and four hospitalizations
- Manassas: 2,006 cases, 131 hospitalizations, 26 deaths; increase of two cases and one death
- Manassas Park: 629 cases, 57 hospitalizations, eight deaths; increase of one case and one hospitalization
- Prince William County: 13,451 cases, 963 hospitalizations, 216 deaths; increase of 61 cases and six hospitalizations
- Fredericksburg: 573 cases, 50 hospitalizations, five deaths; three cases removed, increase of five cases. Removal of one hospitalization
- Spotsylvania County: 2,306 cases, 145 hospitalizations, 46 deaths; increase of eight cases and three hospitalizations
- Stafford County: 2,247 cases, 168 hospitalizations, 19 deaths; increase of 17 cases
