Paul Goss, a retired government worker, picked the winning numbers in last Thursday’s Cash 5 Night drawing, the Virginia Lottery announced Wednesday. The numbers were 1-3-7-11-17.

Goss said he chose the numbers based on historical facts from the Second Battle of Manassas in 1862. He bought the winning ticket at the 7-Eleven at 10810 Fairchester Drive.

In Cash 5, the chances of winning the $100,000 top prize are 1 in 278,256. But Goss has beaten those odds before - in 2004, he won $25,000 in playing Cash 5, the lottery said.

With his latest winnings, Goss said he and his wife plan to buy a new roof for their house and pay off bills.
