FAIRFAX CITY, VA — City of Fairfax Police charged a Falls Church man with felony hit and run after his vehicle struck a police car that then knocked into a police officer Sunday morning on Main Street, according to a police release.

An investigation determined that city police officers were providing traffic control around 6:19 a.m. in the 9600 block of Main Street due to a fire at the nearby Woodson Complex.

A driver put his vehicle into reverse and began heading eastward in the westbound lanes of Main Street. In the process, his vehicle struck a City of Fairfax police car with its emergency lights on. Due to the impact, the police car hit an officer who was standing nearby. The driver then drove away without identifying himself.

Officers from the Fairfax County Police Department took the driver into custody after he had been involved in a second crash in Fairfax County.

The Fairfax City police officer who was struck by the police car suffered non-life threatening injuries that required medical treatment.

City of Fairfax Police charged 20-year-old Omar Zamora of 3243 Wayne Road in Falls Church with felony hit and run. He is being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on a $3,000 unsecured bond.
